Vidjama Gmaes Work

They Just Do

Give Me Star Wars Stuff, Fortnite

I don’t know if I’m more or less surprised or disappointed by my total hours in Fortnite, but if you’re curious I just recently breached 500 hours as of this writing. You’d think I’d be halfway competent at the game by this point, but we can’t all be perfect. I am good enough that I managed to pull off two victory royales in a row.

I’ve said this before about Fortnite but I do find the game to be a good confidence booster. The sheer number of times that I looked at one of the challenges in game and thought “well I’m never pulling that off” only to actually do it either the same match or one or two matches later. Like Darth Maul’s challenge to get a victory royal that popped up literally the match after my last victory. I’m pretty good, but I’m not “two victory royales in a row good.” Except I was, because that’s exactly what happened.

Thankfully the Star Wars event is going on right now, and I always excel in any strategy that allows me to be a greasy underhanded jackass. This is why I tend to get more of my victory royales toward the start of the season, or right when a new weapon is introduced, before others have figured out how to counteract it. And the lightsabers open the door for the greasiest play of all thanks to the introduction of force powers, especially Darth Maul’s whose power does massive damage by picking up big chunks of rock and throwing them at your target.

The DC-15 Blaster Rifle is new and as a mythic-tier assault rifle with unlimited ammo that you can literally get your hands on within ten seconds of touching down, it makes the game a breeze if you know how to aim your weapon. And even if you don’t grab the ones in the boxes, you can still buy a blaster off the clone troopers for 150 gold. Fortnite still has gold? Huh. I’ve made it to 25 players left and still got the “first player to spend gold” award.

There’s also a new augment that just flat out gives you a mythic tactical pistol. That’s a thing.

This game really is like a drug, you get those bursts of dopamine whenever a new pack of missions comes out and you see those experience markers blow up. Then it’s all about the rootin, the tootin, and the shootin. And getting killed by a sweaty nerd with a lightsaber.
