Steam: Resident Evil 4 Drops Cheap Boosters

Resident Evil 4 has some new DLC.

There must be an employee at Capcom whose job is to come up with new DLC for Resident Evil 4 that is simultaneously too cheap for YouTube drama channels to notice and get angry about yet not powerful enough to warrant pay to win complaints.

Since Resident Evil 4 Remake launched in March the game has released 26 pieces of DLC. Some of it is innocuous; costumes and filters for $3-4 apiece as well as the original soundtrack for $3. You have the demo and the Mercenaries DLC which were both free. The deluxe edition shotgun and pistol can be bought for $2 each. And then there are exclusive upgrade tickets that are sold for $3-7 letting you bypass upgrading guns to get their exclusive upgrade early on.

But this week Capcom released four new pieces of DLC that are…interesting to say the least. They are four charms that don’t make the game easy, but they make it easier. The green herb charm boosts green herb healing by 15%. The handgun ammo charm gives a 30% boost to crafting extra handgun ammo. The Attaché Case increases the drop rate for gunpowder (no % listed) while the gold version increases pesetas (also no %).

You can apparently have one case and three charms activated at once. The green herb and handgun charms were pre-order bonuses, and there are over 30 charms that can be earned in-game through the shooting gallery mini-game. You’ll likely end up replacing them pretty quickly with those found in-game.

Still it’s an interesting case study in price versus convenience. I wonder how well these sell. Resident Evil 4 has a 97% overwhelmingly positive rating on Steam.
