GDG: BROK the InvestiGator

In this latest edition of Gamers Don’t Game, I’ll be chatting about BROK the InvestiGator.

Released on August 26, 2022, BROK the InvestiGator is a point and click beat-em-up released by COWCAT Games that costs $20 on most platforms and was released on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, PC, and even Linux and MacOS. Kinda crazy. The game has an “overwhelmingly positive” 98% rating on Steam so obviously people really like it. It was not however played by a great majority of the people who bought it.

According to Steam achievement stats approximately 88% of people who bought InvestiGator beat the introduction. Meaning 12% never turned the game on. Evidently it didn’t leave much of an impression because from then on only 53.4% actually beat chapter one. And I’d like to note that InvestiGator is not a long game. 14 hours for the main story. Ultimately 31% of gamers on Steam actually beat the game, which actually isn’t that bad of a figure given single digits beat Blade Runner.

I did get a chuckle out of seeing that only 8% of players spent 10 seconds on the piano. I have no context for this so maybe it’s hard to do.

Over on Xbox, less than 75% of players finished the introduction. Not a lot of gamers on Xbox huh. Of those, 22.77% went on to beat Chapter 1 and a horrible 10.36% beat Chapter 6. Only 4.6% stayed on the piano for more than ten seconds. Numbers on PlayStation are pretty much similar to PC. According to PSN Profiles which tracks PSN numbers, 88.5% completed the introduction with 53.8% completing chapter 1 and 26.9% completing chapter 6.

What can we learn from this? Strawberries aren’t technically berries. Also you can bet that at least 10% of your customer base will never even boot up the game once they buy it. Happy gaming.

Also I realize that I missed a whole month of Gamers Don’t Game. I’ll be going backwards this week to pick up some of the things I missed.
