I Love Fortnite Creative

Holy guac!

I’m really starting to love Fortnite Creative. At some point in the last year Epic really doubled down on Fortnite Creative because it’s a great way to “maximize engagement” or whatever the suits say in boring closed-door meetings. And they’re right. I imagine a good portion of Fortnite’s player base is just using creative mode because they went so far out of their way to launch the 2.0 edition.

And yeah it’s also because Tim Sweeney wants to shill the metaverse as a not completely dead concept by warping the definition like it’s a shoddy tupperware bowl in a microwave.

The only problem is that Epic wants people to buy the battle pass and up until Creative 2.0’s launch and even before then Epic openly despised people using creative to farm experience. But now that creative is being pitched as a completely valid way to play the game as opposed to a tolerated distraction, they can’t really justify slashing experience gains.

Also, who cares? At the end of the day why should Epic give a shit how people level their battle pass as long as they are playing the game? The people who figure out maximizing xp gain are going to be your most engaged customers, ie; those most likely to continue buying battle passes and skins and stuff. As a business you should want that far more than people getting pissed because they didn’t get the cool skin and just quitting the game. Because that doesn’t bring in moolah long term.

So Chapter 4 Season 4 launched this week and I noticed the game is really going ham on including creator mode experience as a valid way of leveling the pass. Which is awesome. Because sometimes I want to mindlessly play a zombies game mode and still make progress. Speaking of which, check out the Zombieland map I use to farm battle pass experience. Code below. No affiliation.

I’m pretty sure that anime battle pass from this month also let you complete most of it by entirely playing creative mode. And why not? Who cares? We are one day into the battle pass and I am level 14 already.

And none of this has been to the detriment of the standard battle royale mode since all Epic can really do with most of these creator modes is to put in a base “get some experience” missions. There is still incentive to play the battle royale mode, outside of that still being the main purpose of Fortnite, with quest lines and mission goals that can only be completed in the base game.

Still it’s nice to see Epic continuing to remove the need to grind BR to complete the pass.
