Steam: Payday 3(0% Positive)

Gamers really hate Payday 3.

I’m an avid fan of game developers sleeping in the beds they’ve made. Or more accurately, being forced to eat the dump they laid in the bed, that they must also sleep in. Yes that sounded better in my head.

It’s been kind of a year of devs eating shit on Steam. Overwatch 2, Call of Duty, and NBA 2K24 are all some of the lowest rated games on the platform, and while Payday 3 isn’t anywhere near the bottom its launch certainly isn’t hung in the review department. As I’m writing this, it stands at a 30% mostly negative rating with over 17,000 people reviewing it.

And what’s the problem? Well that’d be Starbreeze Studios forcing the game to be online only, and of course that means launch day problems, and that of course means angry stupid people. Why are they stupid? Well in a world where games routinely release and consistently have predictable day one server issues, you’d have to be an idiot to go in expecting a flawless launch for a product you witlessly paid full price for.

I’ve been playing games online since 1996 folks, I know how this crap works. I’m also too cheap to be stupid.

Will this harm Payday 3 in the long run? I doubt it. The game has slipped to #6 in the global top seller list on Steam, and it’s beating out Starfield and Lies of P at the moment. I get the feeling Starbreeze will beat the odds sales-wise, especially once DLC starts coming out because it’ll be much harder to pirate that, and we can probably expect that review number to hit “mixed” as the early negative reviews remain but more people leave positive reviews. As the servers stabilize of course.
