Fortnite Cured My Fortnite Level Buying

Cured like a gabagool.

I have a tendency to swing back and forth on my pendulum of FOMO worship, going from either fanatic obsessive behavior to total apathetic disconnection. But Fortnite is one of those games that I have regularly tried to keep up with on the battle pass and it ain’t easy sometimes. Every few seasons we get an easy season, one that lasts a long time, has a bunch of catchup events, easy missions, weeklies, and tons of stuff that makes leveling the pass a cinch with minimal grind. Other times the season is 70 days, contains jack crap, and forces you to grind or buy levels.

I buy levels. Well, I used to. Well, I used my Fortnite Crew funds to buy level packs.

Now I don’t have to! With the daily missions for Fortnite, Rocket Racers, and whatever the band mode is called, I have literally no reason to buy Fortnite levels. Without grinding the game period, I am level 60 on the battle pass. To keep up with consistent playing, I would need to be level 36 to hit a minimum of 200 by the time the season ends. I could literally take a couple of weeks off of the game and still be fine.

I actually had to check my last Fortnite update article from December 9, where I was level 33. Getting nearly 30 levels in a week with no grind is absolutely insane. Especially since now Fortnite doesn’t feel like forcing myself to eat shit in order to eventually get those fancy late pass bonus skins. Or spending my monthly stipends from Crew to get the level pack, or using them to buy a skin I’m not that interested in because it has a level pass with it for a cheap 28 levels.

The tradeoff has to be there somewhere for Epic because the company has clearly shifted away from designing the battle pass to incentivize players to buy levels. With all the modes, Epic clearly wants Fortnite to be the game you play because you want to play it rather than out of an obligation to the battle pass. Maybe we’ll see a future where Epic joins other devs and stops making battle passes expire once you buy them. Who knows? I don’t.
