New year.
There are hundreds of new games coming out every single week on Steam, so I decided to go through the Steam release list for this coming week and present some games I think could be pretty interesting. Ones to watch, if you will.
#1: Bootlegger’s Mafia Racing Story

Bootlegger’s Mafia Racing Story looks like one of those games that could be pretty fun for what I assume will be releasing for less than $20. Developed by Geekon whose last and only other game Parking Tycoon: Business Simulator has a 79% mostly positive rating, this is a car game where you play as a bootlegger in the 1930s and deliver booze while evading the police and upgrading your car. It looks like a title out of the PS2 era and feels almost like a spiritual successor to the Driver games.
A very arcadey looking game that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
#2: HELL OF VERDUN

Of the many universal constants, one of them is that World War 1 will always lend itself to horror. Because trench warfare is horrifying, and the cramped trenches and underground bunkers make for the perfect location for horror games. I’m not sure why this time period hasn’t taken on more prominence, but it hasn’t. HELL OF VERDUN could be good or bad, the developer SIENTURE has had a handful of games released over the last few years and they mostly appear to be total dogshit.
But all developers start from somewhere and while those games look pretty much on their face to be crap, HELL OF VERDUN at least has some interesting presentation in its screenshots and trailer. Who knows? We’ll see.
#3: Mooselutions

If you’re going to be a puzzle game in 2024, you have to have a charming concept. And Mooselutions has a charming premise, being a simple “put the things on the pressure plates” but you have to wrangle a flock of angry moosen in order to get to your goal. Developed by Ted Bendixson, Niall Reynolds, Christopher Wu, Hau Tran. At the very least the concept sounds pretty interesting.
#4: Portal: Revolution

Yeah it’s not an official Portal game, but Valve doesn’t release new games in their franchises anymore so this is the best we can get. Plus it’s free, and promises 40+ new test puzzles with over eight hours of gameplay. Until some dweeb beats it in 30 minutes.
#5: The Descent

A walking simulator set in a mine. What more could you want?
