It’s Fortnite Fursday.
Chapter 5 Season 2 of Fortnite is here and that means one thing; I gotta talk about it.
Last season kicked off with not a whole lot of story mode to talk about. Peely was captured by a group of bad guys as well as Peter Griffin, and we eventually killed all of them and got him back. Not a whole lot of story to go by. But then with a few days left in the season, Epic pulled a twist and a big hand came out of the ground holding Pandora’s Box. Players destroyed the chains and opened the box, unleashing this season’s story. Greeks.
SHADOW is back! Having no meaningful presence on the island since Chapter 2 outside of a few cameo appearances by ex-agents, SHADOW has once again returned in some notable form. They have taken some territory over from The Society and are giving players tasks in place of the bounty boards. This has introduced a variety of new bounty missions including collecting a supply drop (that spawns), driving a car that spawns, and finding hidden booty. In addition to the killing players.

Oh and I guess it’s worth noting that the big bad guy of this season is Zeus who was freed when Pandora’s Box opened. Ah crap. Zeus wants to wipe out all life on the island because he’s Zeus and that’s kinda what the Greek gods did for no real reason. The seasonal story appears to be gearing up to the loopers teaming up with Aphrodite to convince the other pantheon members to join together and stop Zeus on account of him being an unreasonable dick.
Last season I predicted there was no way Epic would just vault medallions and never bring them up again, and they haven’t disappointed. The new medallions actually give you a reason to go after specific gods, as they do more than just give you passive shield regen now. You can get passive dashes, increase damage of your guns, get health or shield on eliminations, and boost sprint/jump efficiency. Much less incentive to sit and camp once you have a couple medallions as they’re functionally useless unless you’re moving around and engaging.
And you can go around kicking the crap out of the five non-IP bosses. They are moderately more threatening than prior bosses. Maybe it’s just me but the bosses and their henchmen seem to hit much more accurately and harder than The Society. With The Society most of the danger simply came from other players joining in the fight and taking you out first. That’s still the case here, but the bosses seemed to give me a harder time.
I love the Wings of Icarus on both sides of the fight, because if you’re decent at the game you can probably use it as an emergency escape item and if you’re decent at the game you can just blast someone out of the sky if they try to use it to escape. Delicious.
