It did fine.
Dead Island 2 is finally on a PC storefront that people care about and how did it perform? Pretty much how I expected. Now I love Dead Island 2 to an extent, it’s a good game with some big flaws and the difficulty spike toward the end ruins it just a little bit. Right now the title holds a 66% mixed rating which is pretty much what I assumed it would get.
The player count is holding up pretty well though with an 11,000 all time peak and about 10.7k playing as of Sunday morning. Honestly it’s not a bad game for $30, which is the sale price Dead Island 2 released at on Steam.
Meanwhile city building game Manor Lords debuted at $40 and gamers are loving it. It currently stands at an 89% very positive rating with 14,000 reviews and over 150,000 people playing it concurrently on Steam. Reviews point to this game being an incredibly impressive release from a solo dev, while the critics mostly seem to be pointing that it needs more time in the oven. It is an early access release after all.
The big question is can it hold that momentum to launch? We’ll see. Manor Lords is 25% off until May 10.
Speaking of early access, Bellwright has been positively received at the start granted on a smaller scale. 75% of the nearly 1,800 reviews find the game to be worthy of a thumbs up with over 11,000 players in the game concurrently this weekend. Positive reviews compare the game to Medieval Dynasty while both positive and negative reviewers note the uncertainty with the game’s developer Donkey Crew and whether this game will also be abandoned.
Bellwright launched to a $30 price tag, but you can pick it up for a 10% discount until April 30.
The reception to Rotwood, Klei Entertainment’s latest dungeon crawler, has not been as great. Out of 2,400 reviews Rotwood is sitting at a 68% mixed rating with 28,000 peak concurrent players online. Positive reviews praise the game’s art style and Castle Crashers-esque gameplay. Critics meanwhile point to the lack of content, no matchmaking, high difficulty for solo players, and other early access issues.
Rotwood is $11 on sale for 10% off until May 8.
And finally we have Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. This one launched to a mostly positive 77% out of a surprisingly low 844 reviews with 8,300 peak concurrent users. Even those speaking positively of the game agree that the English localization leaves a lot to be desired with many calling it the worst they’ve ever seen. Players seem to be enjoying the characters but are disappointed with slow battles, apparent weakness of magic characters at the start, and the lack of basic features like customizable controls.
Another week, another set of video games.
