And mobile time?
In my last commentary on Fortnite I mentioned that I wouldn’t be happy until the vehicle combat was gone. And you know what? I’m happy. Because the vehicle combat is gone! In fact I barely see anyone driving cars around now and that makes me happy as a clam. Did I mention whoever built the vehicle combat in Season 3 can suck a whole ass through a straw? They can.
But first, we are four seasons into Chapter 5 and it looks like the chapter is set end at the end of this year with a single month OG season followed by Chapter 6. What the hell has been going on this chapter? Let’s get up to speed in a quick summary, shall we?
Chapter 5 revolves mostly around Pandora’s Box as it arrives on the island and various entities converge to try to absorb its power. At the end of Season 3 we learned that Megalo Don’s mysterious wanderer was in fact Doctor Doom who manages to open the box and absorb its power. Doom then brings his fellow villains to the island and (allegedly) kills a ton of heroes, taking their props as trophies. So this season is going to be all about forming another resistance and taking down Doctor Doom.

I say allegedly because it’s all a theory created by the Fandom community on the grounds that Doom has a bunch of trophies from various Marvel characters in his fortress. It does look like Doom killed Galactus at some point, because his helmet is now back floating just off the island. But this is a comic story, who is to say they won’t be brought back or from another timeline.
I get the feeling this season is going to end in time travel to set up the OG Season 2. Don’t quote me on that, it’s just where the plot seems to be going. My guess is that we’ll bring back the heroes Doom slayed and then Galactus will eat Doom and consume the power of Pandora’s Box. This is just me guessing though.
The train is finally back again after it got blown up in Season 3. It stands to reason that Epic knew people wouldn’t be doing much vehicle fighting this season, so they took out the repair torch (again) as well as the EMP (again) and the boom bolt. Surprisingly they also vaulted the med-mist and less surprisingly they vaulted the Nuka Cola as well as everything Fallout-related. We did finally get back the chug splash and flowberries.

The medallions have changed yet again, and now they’re pretty cool. There are three to find, same as last season and they are (dare I say) more impactful. Doom’s Siphon gives you 50 health or shield on an elimination, which is ridiculously useful. I can’t tell you how many times I died because I killed one person and another was right around the corner before I could properly heal. Emma Frost’s is a little less useful, marking opponents every 50 seconds. Mysterio’s gives you 15 seconds of stealth when crouching which is very powerful indeed.
Oh and the vehicle combat is gone. Did I already mention how happy I am that the vehicle combat is gone? I should do it again just for old time’s sake.
The only thing I’m not a fan of this season was Gwenpool’s opening story missions. There are three multi-step quests given by Gwenpool who is currently locked up in prison at The Raft, and I honestly thought Epic was done with these types of quests. All three missions are three part-ers. You have to talk to Gwen, do her task, and then come back and give her the stuff. Where it becomes frustrating is The Raft is a highly popular point of interest this season with its boss and all kinds of stuff going on. If you die mid-mission it gets reset on the next jump.

Current level: 17.
