Why Are We Getting These License Games?

Karate Kid and Matchbox cars.

There is a new Karate Kid game out, and I don’t think just about anyone is aware of this because the game has a whole one review at the time of this posting and peaked at 17 concurrent players on Steam. What’s the deal with that? It popped up on my Steam radar today and it is an actual valid licensed game. The YouTube trailer has 792 views. A quick look at the Steam page shows that it’s by none other than Gamemill Entertainment as the publisher.

Oh boy. I have no idea if the game is any good, the singular review is negative commenting that the game isn’t worth $40 for what it offers. The comments in the forums are full of people saying that they have no plans on buying it as long as it is $40.

If I had a nickel for every licensed game that released today, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s crazy that it happened twice. The second is Matchbox Driving Adventures. I’m not really sure what this game is about because it says that it’s a combat racer but it seems to be a Crazy Taxi-esque game. You can do stuff with vehicles like putting out fires with the fire truck. Who is this advertising to?

Apparently nobody because it has a peak of about one player. It was published by Outright Games Ltd. and Casual Bros Ltd who developed what looks like a really shitty Grinch game that also did terribly. I guess the developer just has a history of making crappy licensed games that don’t sell for shit.

What a time to be alive.
