As 2K prepares to shut the servers down.
NBA 2K23 is dead, long live NBA 2K25. If you play or follow 2K Sports and the NBA 2K series, you know that removing games from sale after two years and shutting down the servers isn’t exactly a new concept. So it should also come as no surprise that 2K23, which launched in 2022, has officially been taken off sale as of November 30.
The game enjoys a 63% mixed review rating on Steam from gamers, most of whom probably went on to buy 2K24 and then 2K25 at full price. Because if there’s one thing we can expect from sports gamers, it’s that not matter how much developers dish out in diminishing returns, they’ll still begrudgingly pay for it. The game peaked at about five thousand concurrent on Steam this past month and I’m sure the consoles are more populated with people still logging in and playing.
So the game is off sale, and as of December 31 the servers will be shut down. You’ll still be able to access anything that doesn’t require the servers to be online, meaning MyTeam and MyCareer are no longer going to be available and you can’t earn the game’s virtual currency.
The community really seems to enjoy these games.
