The script.
I played Kiosk back when the demo came out during the last Next Fest and recently realized that the full game is out. And for only a few bucks? That’s an immediate buy. And I played it. And now I’m making a video about it on the internet.
I don’t know what’s scarier about Kiosk. Maybe it’s the lack of food safety or the negligent health inspectors in this game world. Or perhaps it’s the fact that nVidia made me think none of my clips saved by labeling them all Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. It could be the murderer I’m told killed the guy I replaced and is still running around. Well that’s just a harmless clown.
You play as a dude running a kiosk who works the shift from sundown to midnight. The menu starts out with simple hotdog, hamburger, and drinks. As the week goes on you get pancakes, salad, eggs, fries, and some other stuff. A familiar rotation of characters come by pretty much every night with their own personalities and order way too much junk food. And as the game goes on it reminds you routinely that this whole thing is going to end with your getting stabbed to death.
But you all want to know the same question; will I be spooped by Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004? Don’t know, but it sounds stressful. Kiosk on the other hand, well…it has its moments. It’s not quite as atmospheric as similar titles but it does its best. Mostly you’ll be appreciating your ability to trick shot a whole coffee from across the room. I also enjoyed listening to the customer’s ongoing stories.
The main game will take about an hour and a half to finish and there is an endless mode and a relaxed mode. The relaxed mode is just the endless mode without the time limit. I managed about 20 minutes in the endless mode before coming to terms with how hollow the game feels without the chatter. It’s certainly no Fast Food Simulator. It is worth the low price of admission however.
