Fortnite: Rocket Racing Is A Dead Mode

It’s dead, Jim.

Fortnite Rocket Racing is a mode that I only play because it offers a decent bump of daily experience for the battle pass. And by decent experience I mean like nearly a whole level I think. I’m pretty sure it’s like 50k experience for completing all six daily missions, but that’s enough to get me to keep coming back and playing it even more. Even though I do not care about anything else Rocket Racing related.

But Rocket Racing is dead as a corpse and only getting deader. I realized this over the last week or so that the mode has been almost entirely abandoned by players because it’s been increasingly harder to get a match going.

If you don’t know, Rocket Racing will throw you into a match with other players while waiting for the lobby to fill, and if the lobby doesn’t get more than five players after a certain amount of time it will just jettison you back to the home screen and say “not enough players joined.” The higher you get in ranked the more likely you are to receive this message, the longer it takes to rank, and the more matches fail to start.

And if you’re playing during non-peak hours the numbers get even lower down into the low two thousands. There’s a few reasons why Rocket Racing is doing so badly. Foremost (likely) is that it doesn’t give good experience anymore. Season 0 of Fortnite gave huge experience bonuses for ranking up and those are gone now. If you’re leveling up the battle pass then you’re likely to go with battle royale, Festival, or Lego Fortnite each of which give mountains of experience just for playing. Rocket Racing doesn’t give anything unless you’re completing missions.

Epic have added bots into the mode to fill out the lower ranks, however they disappear once you hit diamond rank and that’s right when the game started being broken for me half the time. When you go from matches filled with 12 players to routine 5-6 people servers it puts people off of bothering to continue playing. And that itself has caused a spiral in the quality of the community in Rocket Racing because of the sweats.

When the casual players leave, all that’s left are the sweats, and Rocket Racing is extra extra sweaty this season.

Otherwise I have no opinion on the matter.
