After waiting way too long.

Sony is backing down on an unpopular decision and all it took was over 200,000 negative Steam reviews and a massive PR blowout.

If you haven’t been following the news, this all kicked off on May 2. Sony announced that PSN account linking, that had previously been optional, would become mandatory. And gamers got angry, in part because people on Steam hate it when you ask them to link an account. The other part being upset because PSN isn’t available in a very large part of the world.

And after four days of overwhelmingly negative attention all across the internet, Sony announced it will be putting the kibosh on those plans. Today’s update to make PSN mandatory will be cancelled.

Helldivers 2 remains unavailable for purchase in a large number of countries as of this publishing. Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt posted the following on Twitter:
